SACRAMENTO (July 29, 2025) – Assemblymember Diane Dixon (R-Newport Beach) celebrates further legislative success.
“It is great news when they call to tell you that three of your bills have been signed into law!” said Assemblymember Dixon upon learning the fate of her three bills that had been sitting on the Governor’s desk.
This year, Assemblymember Dixon has had four bills signed into law, and there are still two months left before the end of the legislative year. Her portfolio of bills includes policies to help Orange County, address public safety needs and support Californians.
Assembly Bill 965 was one of the measures signed into law, which will prohibit the sale of a Class 3 E-Bike to people under 16 years of age.
“E-Bikes pose serious risks to pedestrians and other bikers if they are not operated correctly,” said Assemblymember Dixon, “The law already prohibits individuals under 16 from riding these types of electric bicycles. My bill that was signed into law will ensure they cannot purchase them as well.”
This new law will work in conjunction with other bills and regulations attempting to curb the accidents and injuries sustained from reckless E-Bikes riders.
According to data from the US Consumer Product Safety Commission, children 14 years and younger accounted for 36% of “micromobility injuries” from 2017- 2022.
In addition to AB 965, the Governor signed AB 1272 and AB 1170, also authored by Assemblymember Dixon.
AB 1272 will help address fraud and scams by prohibiting businesses with an occupational license issued by the Department of Motor Vehicles from using the acronym “DMV,” the Department of Motor Vehicles logogram, or the words “Department of Motor Vehicles” in their website domain name.
“As someone who had a negative experience with one of these websites while trying to navigate updating my vehicle registration at the DMV, I thought it was imperative we address it,” said Assemblymember Dixon, “I can’t be the only one impacted by these other websites offering DMV services you have to pay for.”
Finally, AB 1170 is a type of omnibus measure that made numerous technical changes to correct grammatical errors and other issues in the state’s statutes without altering their substantive meaning. The Assemblymember authored the bill as the Vice Chair of the Assembly Judiciary Committee.
“This year has been successful thus far,” said Assemblymember Dixon, “I was thoughtful and strategic when I put together my legislative package at the beginning of the Session, and it is paying off.”
The Assemblymember has six remaining bills moving through the legislative process. The 2025 legislative Session is scheduled to end on September 12.
