SACRAMENTO (May 27, 2025) – Today, Assemblymember Diane Dixon (R-Newport Beach) presented Assembly Concurrent Resolution 66 on the Assembly Floor, commemorating May 2025 as Skin Cancer Awareness Month.
“I was proud to present ACR 66 to honor May as Skin Cancer Awareness month,” said Assemblymember Dixon, “It is the most common form of cancer in the United States and it is imperative that we raise awareness about how to prevent it.”
Skin cancer affects millions of Americans every year. Tragically, the American Cancer Society estimates more than 8,000 Americans will die this year alone from skin cancer. These statistics underscore the importance of raising awareness about the prevalence of skin cancer, potential risk factors and preventative measures we can all take.
“This issue is deeply personal to me,” said Assemblymember Dixon. “I recently experienced several treatments to remove skin cancer. I am very fortunate I had excellent medical care that caught it early and removed it, yet I remain on guard.”
As a member of the Rare Disease Caucus, Assemblymember Dixon has additionally made it a priority to highlight health related issues that affect Californians.
“My district is a wonderful destination for people to have fun in the sun,” said Assemblymember Dixon, “In fact, approximately 50 million people visit Orange County annually to enjoy our beautiful beaches and coastline. It is crucial we raise awareness about the risks of ultraviolet exposure and enjoy our beautiful weather responsibly.”
