SACRAMENTO (May 20, 2025) – Assemblymember Diane Dixon (R-Newport Beach) urges the Orange County Board of Supervisors to adopt Supervisor Nguyen’s Resolution to oppose South Coast Air Quality Management District’s proposed amended rules to eliminate natural gas furnaces and water heaters.
“I commend Supervisor Nguyen for bringing forward this Resolution. These electrification mandates from the California Air Resources Board and regional boards are misguided and will negatively impact 17 million Californians,” said Assemblymember Dixon.
Specifically, proposed amended rules 1111 and 1121 will require residents and businesses to transition their furnaces and water heaters to electrical units and eliminate the use of natural gas. The proposed amended rules will go into effect for residents in less than two years.
“We need to offer residents solutions, not problems,” said Assemblymember Dixon, “I support efforts to improve air quality, but not at the risk of causing significant financial pain to homeowners. Water heaters and furnaces are not luxury items; they are necessities.”
