SACRAMENTO (September 16, 2024) – This month, Assemblymember Diane Dixon (R-Newport Beach) will be hosting several beach cleanup events to help commemorate California Coastal Cleanup Day.
Assemblymember Dixon will be hosting two beach cleanups with Ryan Hickman from Project3R and Ryan’s Recycling. Ryan Hickman has recycled approximately two million cans and bottles to address pollution. Project3R organizes many local beach cleanups and has been successful in starting school recycling programs, in addition to offering education classes on the environment.
“I am looking forward to collaborating with Ryan Hickman and Project3R to host beach cleanups in honor of California Coastal Cleanup Day,” said Assemblymember Dixon. “You may recognize Ryan from his appearances on The Ellen Show, Good Morning America, CBS, The Today Show, CNN and many more, discussing his continuous efforts to conserve the coastline.”
Protecting California’s coast is a key policy issue for the Assemblymember. She has authored legislation focused on cleaning up the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, spearheaded working groups aiming to reduce trash flowing onto our beaches and has secured state funding for projects like the Newport Bay Trash Interceptor.
The first beach cleanup event will be held in Laguna Beach on Saturday, September 21 from 8 AM – 9:30 AM. Guests will meet at Aliso Beach, Lot 22 (31131 Coast Highway, Laguna Beach, CA) where refreshments, trash grabbers and buckets will be provided by Project3R.
The following week, Assemblymember Dixon will host another beach cleanup event in Seal Beach on Saturday, September 28 from 8 AM – 9:30 AM. Guests will meet at First Street Parking lot (1st Street, Seal Beach, CA) to enjoy refreshments and gather their cleanup materials, provided by Project 3R.
