SACRAMENTO (August 29, 2024) – Assemblymember Diane Dixon (R-Newport Beach) issued the following statement:
“I am pleased to hear Senate Bill 94 will not be brought forward for a vote before the end of the 2024 Legislative Session. My colleagues and I worked hard with stakeholders in opposition, such as law enforcement, to highlight the negative impacts this bill would have on our communities. This measure would have ignored the clear will of the voters and allowed the worst of the worst criminals to be considered for release from prison. Releasing these murderers back into our communities would have horrific and traumatic consequences. Families of victims were told that these killers would live the rest of their lives behind bars. We cannot and should not allow that to change. Victims deserve better. Californians deserve better! This bill may be dead for the remainder of this year, but I intend to watch closely to make sure it does not return next year.
